2020-21 Alternate Auditions

2020 East Central Kansas District Band Audition Procedures for Students selected to National Ensembles

Students will record selected scales (a specified major scale and the full range chromatic), the complete excerpts of the official 2020 KMEA audition solo for their instrument, and sight reading. Students will have one opportunity, i.e. "one take" on scales, excerpts, and sight reading, to match the parameters of the live audition.

These recordings will be done at Blue Valley North HS on Monday, November 2, 2020, beginning at 7:00 PM. This date and time are also posted on the ECKMEA website and it has been communicated to all ECKMEA band directors via email.

Recordings of National Ensemble members will be played for the instrument judges the day of District Auditions (Saturday, November 7, 2020) so as to maintain consistency in judging. Recordings will be judged using the same rubric as live auditions and will ONLY include the same excerpts that will be played by the live audition students (i.e. the band chair will edit the student's performance so that ONLY the required materials are presented).

EVERY PRECAUTION WILL BE TAKEN TO ENSURE THE VALIDITY AND FAIRNESS OF THE AUDITION PROCESSES.

This recorded audition option is only offered to students selected to perform in a NAfME National Ensemble due to the fact that KMEA and NAfME are affiliated organizations. All other students will be required to attend live auditions.
